There is a piece hierarchy Lair -> Alpha Wolf -> Pack Wolf -> Den. You can only place your piece on an opponent's piece if:
1) The opponent's piece is the only piece in the hex
2) Your piece is higher in the hierarchy than the opponent's piece.
So, Wolves can be placed onto opponent Dens. And Alphas can be placed on opponent Pack Wolves (pushing them out). And Lairs can be placed on opponent Alpha/Pack Wolves (pushing them out). -
