As you can't explain what you want to suggest in this post clearly, I think adding what you want will actually add more confusion while playing.
In screenshot above, you should be able to add the 9 of diamonds under 8 of spades without having to place the 9 of diamonds in the empty space, followed by merging the 2 piles together.
