Indeed, all games are automatically set to training mode and you have to manually set it to normal mode every time you play it. It should either default to normal or remember your choice. Or perhaps a setting in the user settings would be nice.

I know this could easily dismissed as "expected behavior" by the devs, but consider...

If you choose "Play Now" and "Select a Friend to Invite" and they join too quickly, you can be locked out from changing game settings.

That quick play user interaction path is really nice! But if you don't have reasonable defaults, or a way to set or correct them, it's going to prevent people from using any of the streamlined UX you introduce.

This should be considered a blocking bug/UX flaw preventing some of your other really good UI improvements.

Game mode indeed defaults to training, no matter the game or whether you already changed to regular mode in previous plays.

It would be nice to at least have a option in our profile to choose for the default game mode.

All games are automatically set to training mode and you have to manually set it to normal mode every time you play it.
It should either default to normal or remember your choice.

I am having a slightly different problem, In Rally GT even when I select Training Mode, it doesn't stick, and then I get a message saying Training Mode is required for a Solo Game.

Curiously, it doesn't happen to me with Hanabi nor Takenoko, but does happen with Avleole. No idea why. (Simple game / real time / manual choice of opponents, all games played previously quite lot, in Avleole there was the longest time before last game)

This is a constant irritation because if players accept too quickly, you can't change it to normal mode and if they don't accept quickly enough, the system wants to boot them from game.

I am having the same problem as Aaron J.
1) Click the Preferences icon.
2) Select "Some advanced options"
3) Select "Change" next to Game Mode. Training Mode is set to "I never want to play with Training Mode"
4) Change that setting to "I'm ok playing with training mode"
5) Select "Play now" or select "Close", then "Play now"
6) After a moment you get this message: "Unexpected error: 2 players or more are required if training mode and Solo Game are OFF."
7) When you go back to Preferences, Game Mode, Training mode is set back to "I never want to play with Training Mode" Basically changing this preference doesn't "stick"

When setting your preferences in Automatic you can select never to play Training Mode. That preference should be allowed to be set in playing with Friends. This should be tied to you personally, like the option to select your default color choice is. I've seen a lot of complaints in the Forums about the Training Mode default, and I saw a note that said a change was coming. I just wanted to add anoth voice to the chorus.

I would suggest to remove "Normal mode" as an available voice from the drop down menu when the game is in Alpha. Right now, I can choose and then I am told "alpha games are only in training mode"... I don't see the reason to offer an option I cannot actually use.

When you play with friends the default is "training": when playing with a group of friends you do not want to have constraint like a timer or penalties.

Before making this a default, we constantly received complaints from players asking to penalties removal because it was just a game between friends.

You can still choose to switch the option to your preferred game speed when you want to.

Thanks for providing that explanation. Setting the default to "training" makes a lot of sense, when explained that way.

but once anyone joins the table using easy setup via play now > add friends, it no longer gives you the option to change from training mode to elo mode, so you're stuck without any ELO history unless you decide to recreate the table over again. and if you decide to not use easy setup and add players to your table via looking up their screen name, it pulls up the ENTIRE bga database, which is VERY difficult to use to find the correct players to add. is there any process to make switching from training mode to normal mode easier without kicking everybody out, recreating the table, or looking up every user's names from the ENTIRE BGA drop down database?

Why not add an option for each user to setup their own preferences? We play all games with friends in "normal" mode and it is a pain to switch it EVERY single time we play! You have the preference for automatic, why not with friends?

Please make having "training mode" defaulted an option. I play games a lot with ONE friend, but we add in other people since most games we play are not for two people. Because of that I have to make sure for every game we play that I turn off training mode. I am not used to this because it never defaulted before. This is very frustrating.

Also why get rid of the "Open Table" button? It feels like a lot of settings changed all at once and there was no explanation anywhere.

Hi, was this ever fixed? I'm having the same problem with Wingspan. When my wife starts the game, it always starts in normal mode (as we like it). When I start, it defaults to "Friendly". Any thoughts?
